Companions on the Journey:
Exploring the Ministry of the Catholic School Educator

 

First Session - June 14-17, 2010

Goals:

  • Participants will experience an enhanced appreciation of the Catholic nature of the school
  • Participants will gain a minimal understanding of the content of the Catholic Faith in all three areas of curriculum instruction.
  • As a result of the program, there will be a greater awareness of the Catholic Culture among faculty and staff of each school.

Curriculum

  1. Knowledge of the Faith: Scripture, communion with Jesus Christ, great teachings of Christianity, dignity of human person
    • Presenter: Edward McCormack, PhD
  2. Sacramental Life and Worship
    • Presenter: Theresa Koernke, IHM - PhD
  3. Moral Life and Catholic Social Teaching
    • Presenter: Kevin O’Neil, CSsR - STD

Audience

Elementary and Secondary teachers who desire a deeper understanding of the meaning of Catholic education.

Format


Hybrid Model

  • Onsite
    • Participants will gather at WTU June 14-17, 2010 for a survey of Knowledge of the Faith; Sacramental Life and Worship; Moral Life
  • Online
    • Participants will take part in at-home education through semi-monthly presentations and discussions, as professors go more in depth with each topic.
  • Onsite
    • Participants will return to WTU March 24-26, 2011 for an integrating retreat.

Cost


$1300 including room and board for two onsite programs, entire program and program materials


Washington Theological Union will award a Certificate of Completion to each participant at the end of the program.
